Local to Methven

Working Methven plots, week in, week out.

Coverage across PH1

Methven sits directly between our Crieff yard and Perth, so we are through the village constantly. We cover PH1 across Methven, Almondbank, Pitcairngreen, Tibbermore, Madderty and the farms and cottages along the A85 corridor and the Almond valley.

Response times to Methven

This is close-to-base work, which means quick site visits — often within a day or two — and quotes back the same day. Small jobs can frequently be slotted into an existing Methven or Perth day, which keeps prices sensible. Storm and safety calls in PH1 are among the fastest we can respond to within our Mon–Sun 8am–6pm hours.

Familiarity with Methven property types

Methven is a village of two halves: the old core along the main street, with stone cottages, mature boundary trees and long back gardens, and the newer housing on the edges, with smaller plots and standard fencing. Around it is farmland, shelter belts and estate policy woodland — big beeches and limes on the Methven Castle side that are exactly the age class where reduction and deadwooding start to matter.

Why Methven chooses us

Concrete reasons — not marketing lines.

Genuinely local

Fifteen minutes away. That means fast site visits, reliable maintenance days and a lower travel element in your price.

Small jobs welcome

Because we are through Methven anyway, jobs too small for a contractor coming from Dundee or Stirling are straightforward for us.

Farm and village experience

Stock fencing, shelter-belt thinning and long hedge runs as readily as a small back garden.

Fixed price, no deposit

Free visit, written quote, nothing paid up front, and the site swept before we leave.

Property types

Methven plots we work on.

Old village core (Main Street, Church Street)

Stone cottages with long, narrow back gardens, mature boundary trees planted well before the current owners, and stone walls that need protecting during any tree work.

Newer village housing

Smaller plots, timber panel fencing at the end of its life, and lawns laid over ground the builders never decompacted. Standard work is fence replacement and proper lawn preparation.

Almondbank and Pitcairngreen

Riverside plots along the Almond with damp ground, mature willows and alders, and periodic flood-related debris to clear. Drainage and tree safety dominate.

Farms and rural cottages (Tibbermore, Madderty)

Long boundaries, shelter belts, stock fencing and access tracks. Project-scale visits where several jobs get done in one planned run.

Local problems

What comes up in Methven.

Shelter belts past their best

The beech and conifer belts planted around Methven's farms and policies are mature and increasingly wind-vulnerable. Thinning and removing the failing stems protects both the belt and what sits behind it.

Wet ground in the Almond valley

Low ground towards Almondbank and Pitcairngreen holds water. Lawns sit sodden and gravel laid without a sub-base disappears. Drainage is designed in, not bolted on.

Roadside hedges along the A85

Long hedge runs on a fast road need cutting on a proper cycle for sightlines and safety, and cuttings have to be collected rather than left on the verge.

Ash dieback in field boundaries

Ash is common in PH1 hedgerows and it is failing across the region. Brittle dead ash near a road, a track or a house is dealt with sooner rather than later.

Compacted new-build ground

The newer plots have thin topsoil over a compacted pan. Turf laid straight onto it never establishes — the fix is stripping, breaking up and rebuilding the soil profile.
